Washington Wizards assistant Adam Caporn won the race Wednesday to take over from Brian Goorjian as head coach of the Australian men's basketball team.
Goorjian led the side to bronze at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 before a disappointing quarter-final exit in Paris last year.
He left to join the Sydney Kings with Caporn, who was his assistant in recent years, appointed to replace him.
"It is an incredible honour to be part of the Boomers programme. To step into the role of head coach is truly a dream come true," said Caporn.
"I'm excited to get to work, building a team that will represent Australia with pride and continue to strengthen the Boomers’ great legacy and culture."
The 42-year-old Australian is currently an assistant coach with the NBA's Washington Wizards and held a similar role at the Brooklyn Nets.
He served as head coach of Basketball Australia's Centre of Excellence from 2014–2021, developing emerging talent including current NBA and Boomers stars Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels.
